Preston Summerhays Continues Family Tradition in US Open

Summerhays is the youngest player in this year’s 144-golfer field, which features the best golfers in the world, in what will be the second “major” of the 2020 golf season. He has been in New York for the past several days and already has a lifetime full of memories, after playing with several of the world’s top golfers in practice rounds. It’s not surprising that Summerhays played a practice round with Tony Finau, whose coach happens to be his father, Boyd. But look who else Summerhays has played with in his three days of practice rounds. On Saturday he played with Rickie Fowler and former PGA champion Jimmy Walker. He played with the same two golfers on Sunday and also played nine holes with defending U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland. On Monday, he played with Finau, along with Collin Morikawa, the recent winner of the PGA Championship and No. 5-ranked golfer in the world, as well as Xander Schauffele, the No. 7-ranked player in the world. via Deseret News

If you're not familiar with the Summerhays family, they're as close to Utah golf royalty as anyone can get. Bruce Summerhays, the "patriarch" of the family, was a professional on both the PGA Tour and more famously on the Champions Tour. His sons both became PGA Club professionals, while his nephews, Daniel and Boyd, became professional players.

And this is where Preston comes into play. The son of Boyd Summerhays, Preston was born into the golf world. While his father had a forgettable PGA Tour career, he has become one of the best coaches and instructors in golf today. Learning from the same man that molded Tony Finau, Preston began to craft his swing. And you can hear some of the praises that Tony heaps upon Preston and the Summerhays family here.

And the best part about this story? Preston's caddie this week is his father, Boyd. So when Preston is working out a shot on the course in his first ever Major, his dad will be able to guide him through the process.

Last week, we saw a father-son connection win the Safeway Open? Can the Summerhays boys bring home a Low Amateur title this week? We'll be rooting for you here, Preston!
